Particle Tracking Software

Picture3

I built particle-tracking software using MATLAB for a colleague studying biology. The software included a friendly, straightforward user interface that automatically stored and processed all of the users’ experimental data.

It also included a particle tracking algorithm that accurately determined the location of fluorescently labelled proteins in each frame of a video, then tracked the movement of each object throughout the video, and collected/displayed statistics of the particles.

My colleague was studying the movement of motor proteins across microtubule filaments, and so I designed the software to also cross-reference the movement of the particles against an initial bright-field image of the underlying microtubule bundle. In doing so, my software was able to algorithmically determine the path of each motor protein on the surface of each microtubule.
